The 5 Ps to Recruitment Success

So, as you can imagine, we receive quite a lot of enquiries here at SSG and with them come many questions, ranging from that of the standard nature to the completely random!

One of the most common is “Who is your most successful partner?”

But in all honesty, why should it matter? It’s a tricky question because success is subjective and only you can define what it means. A Recruiter in his 8th year of working for himself, billing £250k a year on his own and working from a home office could arguably be more successful than another who is in their third with a team of 6 consultants consistently billing with a multi-million pound turnover.

It really depends on what they set out to achieve and how well they are doing along their chosen path.

Whether it’s freedom, autonomy, money or lifestyle, everyone has their own goals.

I do however think that all of them have one thing in common, or should I say, 5 things in common which I’ve dubbed ‘The 5 Ps to Recruitment Success’:

You’ve got to have a genuine love for what you do, otherwise, you’ll struggle. Some of the most successful entrepreneurs never had a multi-million pound fortune as their prime objective. Financial gain became the by-product of doing what they love. Find your passion and DO IT.

The best independent Recruiters know their WHY. They are clear on who they are, where they are and what they need to achieve. It doesn’t really matter what your WHY is, just as long it sets the tone to achieve your outcome. Listen to your inner voice and live your purpose through your passion.

Are you sitting comfortably? I hope not. I mean that metaphorically of course. It’s important to be aware of your own limitations and boundaries of capability however is there not a part of you that finds it a little exciting to explore if you can be pushed beyond your comfort zone?

In the words of Billy Ocean, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going!”. In all seriousness, recruitment is a tough game and in the end, the best of them are the ones who have the steel to stick with it and stay focussed in what they set out to achieve. After all, recruitment isn’t a hard job, it’s a job you’ve got to do hard.

This should ideally focus on the background of your business, the market landscape, sales & marketing, management structure and of course financials.

So, there you have it – The 5 Ps to Recruitment Success.
